Oaxaca

It's been a while since we posted anything new, so I thought I would put up a quick update.  We haven't posted because we've been busy with full day Spanish classes in Oaxaca city for the last week.  He haven't taken a single picture yet (except of water valves).  Marion and I each had 4 hours of group Spanish classes a day, followed by 1 hour of private lessons - for the last five days.  My head hurts, but our Spanish is better and I personally have a ton to work on to continue to improve.  Last night we took a cooking class in a local home and learned to make Mole Amarillo - the yellow mole, a traditional local dish.  Not to be confused with the famous Oaxacan mole negro (black mole) that would have taken far too long for the class.  Black mole has over 25 ingredients and takes a long time to prepare.  The cooking class was great and at least three generations live in the 100 year old house it was held in.  Marion and I brought two bottles of vino tinto to the class and that seemed to be a big hit.

Amazingly, and thanks to the hard work of Jon and Lynn, we received our DHL package from the USA today!  The new SPOT satellite tracker should be up and running soon and I'm hoping it will work with our existing map on the blog.  We also received a replacement kindle, so Marion is pretty psyched.  Lynn and Jon, we can't thank you enough for coordinating the DHL pick-up and shipment.  Lynchburg to our hands in Oaxaca in 48 hours is pretty damn impressive.

Now that we're done with classes, we're going to try to catch up on being tourists in Oaxaca before we head down towards Chiapas and on to Guatemala for Christmas.  We're going out to dinner with some of our Spanish class classmates and then tomorrow I'll do two moto oil changes and we'll try to get our to Monte Alban, a great archeological site nearby.  We're also hoping to visit a 2000 year old cypress tree that is said to be the largest circumference tree trunk on the planet at the moment.  I think we'll also try to pull of a couple of haircuts, as we're both feeling the need (M still looks wonderful, but too-long on me is pretty bad).

We're considering buying a painting in town and have visited it several times.  If we buy the painting we'll probably leave Oaxaca on Monday after we ship it home.  If not, we may head towards Chiapas on Sunday.  Wish us luck in the gallery negotiations!

Hope to have some pictures to post soon!
